Revitalising Tennis in Redbridge Parks

As part of an ambitious renovation programme spearheaded by the LTA Tennis Foundation, Sovereign Sports was appointed as the principal contractor for major works across 11 parks in the London Borough of Redbridge.

Our task was to breathe new life into over 30 dilapidated or unplayable tennis courts and transform them into modern, accessible facilities for the local community. Our professional court resurfacing, re-fencing, acrylic applications, and line marking services proved instrumental in getting these tennis courts revitalised up to – and beyond – the expected standard.

The £600,000+ project funded by the UK Government, LTA Tennis Foundation, Redbridge Council, and Vision Redbridge Culture & Leisure represents a significant investment in getting more people active through tennis. However, it also presented complex logistical and operational challenges that our experienced tennis court installation team was well-equipped to tackle head-on.

Phase 1 involved a complete reconstruction of the courts across sites like the popular Valentines Park and Goodmayes Park. Our tennis court experts worked tirelessly to remove old, cracked surfaces and install durable, resilient, hardwearing new bases that drastically improve the playing experience. We then applied best-in-class acrylic court coatings to ensure the best possible aesthetic finish.

Our tennis court renovations also included installing new secure fencing, nets, and gates to enhance the standard of the courts. The easy accessibility and privacy ensure these resurfaced and revitalised courts can be easily accessed by the community while remaining properly maintained.

With 31 courts spread across 11 locations, seamless planning and execution were critical. Our project managers worked closely with Redbridge Council and the LTA to coordinate a phased approach that minimised disruptions while transforming facilities to a specific timescale and budget.

Despite challenging weather conditions and disruptions, our tennis court professionals persevered, drawing on decades of construction and resurfacing expertise. We successfully leveraged cutting-edge techniques and materials to deliver results that far exceeded expectations.

The culmination was a resounding success – a network of striking new tennis facilities that will provide an affordable, accessible way for players of all ages and skill levels to be active for years to come.

Our work will enable Redbridge to host regular free coaching sessions, social Local Tennis Leagues, holiday camps, and community events that inspire more people to pick up a racket. With simple online booking and affordable costs starting from just £2.50 per session, the barriers to participating have never been lower.

At Sovereign Sports, we take immense pride in projects that tangibly improve communities through sport. This large-scale park tennis court regeneration highlighted our ability to deliver as lead contractors on complex, multi-site schemes to the highest standards.

ATP Tennis Returns to Eastbourne

Sussex and Kent tennis fans have something to get excited about this summer as ATP World Tour tennis returns to Eastbourne’s Devon Park Lawn Tennis Club in 2017. The announcement was made that the ATP, which is the men’s professional tennis tour, would once again be holding a joint tournament with the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) so fans will be able to enjoy both women’s and men’s matches across the event. From 2009 to 2014, the Aegon International hosted both a men’s and women’s tournament simultaneously, but the previous two years saw Eastbourne revert to a sole women’s event.
