With over 40 years of experience, we combine expert knowledge with a passion for service to deliver high-quality tennis courts that exceed expectations. Whether this is building an acrylic tennis court from scratch, retrofitting floodlighting, or fencing, or conducting routine tennis court maintenance and surfacing checks, Sovereign Sports can help.
All our acrylic tennis court installations are conducted in strict accordance with SAPCA codes of practice, as well as our own strict health and safety standards, for your peace of mind. Acrylic tennis courts (or hard courts) are arguably the most versatile, proving suitable for indoor or outdoor use. Most worldwide tennis tournaments are played on hard acrylic courts, while artificial clay and grass courts also have their place.
What is an Acrylic Tennis Court?
An acrylic tennis court is a hard court surface system built from specialist acrylic coatings applied over a prepared base, typically concrete or asphalt. The coatings create a consistent, durable playing surface that can be specified to suit different levels of play, from everyday use to competition standard.
We offer a range of acrylic systems, from straightforward hardcourt builds to cushioned systems with an added shock-absorbing layer, so you can choose the specification that suits your budget and how you want to play.
The Benefits of Acrylic Tennis Courts

- Excellent ball bounce and cushioning for reduced injuries

Is Acrylic Right for Your Project?
Acrylic suits projects where consistency, durability and manageable maintenance are priorities. It gives a fast, consistent ball bounce, needs only routine cleaning and periodic recoating, and can be specified for indoor or outdoor installations, making it appropriate across clubs, schools, private courts and other facilities.
We also install:
All Weather Hard Courts: a similar outdoor playing surface at a lower cost, though firmer and less consistent underfoot than acrylic, with more frequent recoating required.
Artificial Clay: recreates the authentic slide and bounce of a natural clay surface, with regular infill grooming needed to keep the surface level and consistent.
Artificial Grass: gives a softer, slower surface underfoot, though like clay it’s mainly suited to outdoor use and needs periodic brushing and infill top-ups to maintain.
Whatever the priorities for your project, budget, playing style or maintenance, we install all four surfaces and can talk you through the right specification for your court.

How Acrylic Courts Are Installed
- Site survey: we visit your site to assess ground conditions, drainage and access before recommending the right specification.
- Court specification and planning: based on the survey, we agree court size, acrylic system and any extras (fencing, floodlighting, colour) with you.
- Ground preparation: the site is cleared and prepared to the correct falls and levels for effective drainage.
- Base construction: where required, the court base is constructed or prepared to SAPCA codes of practice, forming the foundation for the acrylic system.
- Acrylic system installation: the chosen acrylic system, including cushioning layers where specified, is applied to create a seamless, consistent playing surface.
- Line marking: precise line marking is applied for tennis and, where required, additional sports.
- Final inspection and handover: a full quality check before the finished court is handed over to you.

Cushioned Acrylic Courts
Our impervious acrylic tennis court system comprises a 6mm rubber cushioning mat which is bonded and coated using textured polymers to produce a superior cushioned playing surface. The system is made up of the cushioning mat which is adhered to the required substrate. A polyurethane self-levelling wear layer is then applied over the rubber mat to create a seamless base.
The surface is finished with our durable water-based acrylic topcoats which provide great playability, consistency and resilience. The coating system offers cushioning of 3-6mm to allow true ball bounce across all court areas.
As well as being extremely durable and resistant to wear, the cushioning effect will remain constant in all weather conditions for years of use.
For additional comfort underfoot, we recommend our cushioned acrylic courts. At Sovereign Sports, we use the SurfTech® Cushion product which is an impervious cushioned acrylic tennis surface that provides excellent UV resistance and resilience.

This ITF-approved system offers additional cushioning subsurface layers from 1 to 3mm in thickness. This liquid coating provides a slip-resistant top acrylic layer that adds to its durability and weatherproofing, withstanding all types of temperatures and conditions.
It’s no wonder why Sovereign Sports has been a trusted court surfacing provider for tennis courts, as well as those for other sports like netball, 5-a-side football, basketball, hockey and basketball. We offer various acrylic cushioning systems from leading manufacturers to suit your budget and performance needs.
Comfort Court: built from a sub-base with a PU adhesive layer bonding a prefabricated rubber mat, topped with a pore sealer, wear layer and water-based PU topcoats, finished with line marking.

Cushion Court: built from a substrate with a resurfacer layer, a dedicated cushion layer and a Tour surface layer beneath the lines, finished with line marking.

Elite Court: built from a sub-base with a PU adhesive layer bonding a prefabricated rubber mat, topped with a pore sealer, wear layer and water-based PU topcoats, finished with line marking.

Hardcourt: built from a sub-base with an acrylic resurfacer, acrylic base coat and acrylic topcoat, finished with line marking. No rubber cushioning layer, making it the standard, non-cushioned acrylic build.

Acrylic Court Line Marking
In addition to constructing high-quality acrylic tennis courts, Sovereign Sports also specialises in precision line marking to delineate playing areas. We use durable line marking paint and machines to mark out crisp, straight boundary lines, service boxes, and centre markings with a bright finishing touch and long-lasting durability.
As part of regular tennis court maintenance, we also provide professional relining services to restore vibrancy to existing line markings. This helps rejuvenate older acrylic courts and hard surface courts and extends their usable lifetime.
Acrylic Lifespan, Maintenance and Care
Acrylic courts are built to last, but the two layers involved age differently. The acrylic topcoat takes the wear from ball impact, foot traffic and UV exposure, and typically needs resurfacing every 4 to 8 years to keep its colour, texture and playing characteristics.
The structural base underneath, when properly built and drained, lasts considerably longer, often 15 to 20 years or more, so a well-maintained acrylic court is a long-term investment rather than a short-lived one.
How long each layer lasts in practice depends on usage levels, local climate and how well the court is looked after, which is where regular repairs and cleaning make the difference.
Acrylic Court Repairs
Over time, even the highest-quality acrylic tennis courts can experience minor cracks and surface damage from extensive play and weathering. Sovereign Sports offers specialised tennis court repair services to fix these issues and prevent further deterioration.
Our expert tennis court repair team has experience with filling cracks, patching holes, and resurfacing damaged areas on acrylic courts. We use industrial-grade patching polymeric compounds, polyurethane binders and compatible acrylic coatings to seamlessly repair the court for smooth, consistent ball bounce and traction.
Cleaning Acrylic Courts
Ensuring regular cleaning is key to keeping your acrylic tennis court looking its best and maintaining its appearance. Sovereign Sports provides professional tennis court pressure washing tailored to deep clean the court surface and pores while removing debris, moss, and dirt buildup.
A deep clean by our trusted technicians with powerful tennis court detergents, pressure washers, and moss or weed killer, will ensure that your tennis court looks and performs as intended all year round. When the correct tennis court cleaning methods are applied, the result is a fresh, safe, fast-draining acrylic court with robust stability and slip resistance.
