Do you need to power wash your tennis court?

Good maintenance is an important aspect of owning your own tennis court. Being able to play on the court any time you like is certainly a lot of fun, but it’s vital that you keep it in top condition. If you don’t put in the effort with the upkeep of the court you can shorten its lifespan and make it less appealing to play on.

Hard courts are the most durable style of tennis court but even they require maintenance to stay at their best. For the most part this means regularly sweeping the court and removing detritus such as leaves, pine needles and more. But even if you carry out regular maintenance, there will be a natural build-up of dirt and organic materials on your court and the only way that you can get rid of this is through power washing.

Power washing can clean bird droppings and other acidic substances which can seriously damage the court if they are not cleaned up. It will also remove moss and organic matter from the court which, if left uncleaned, can make the conditions slippery.

How often should you power wash the court?

How often you power wash your court will depend on a number of factors including how often you use the court and where it is located. In general, a court in an unshaded area should be power washed every 12 months or so. However, if the court is located under trees or high buildings it may need more washing more often.

This is something that you need to decide for your court. It can be best to simply keep track of the visual condition of the court and ensure that you get the court washed a minimum of every 18 months.
